Q: What is Minerelle?

A: Minerelle is a homogeneous mineral based solid surfacing material with natural mineral fillers and high grade engineered resins directly coated to an environmentally friendly core board and balanced with a non-porous resin and recycled filler mixture. All factory edged tops ensure full resistance to moisture and water ingress. Minerelle is made in 58mm & 41mm thick for kitchens and 30mm thick for bathrooms.

Q: Can I buy direct from the manufacturer?

A: Minerelle is supplied via a number of stocking distributors only. Please enquire through "CONTACT US" page for your nearest stocking distributor.

^ top

Q: Are there display incentives for showing Minerelle in my studio?

A: Yes, your distributor will be able to provide you with a display offer.

^ top

Q: Can I obtain samples of the product?

A: Yes, these should be available from the retailer you intend to buy your Minerelle from. For a small postal charge you can order samples directly via the "CONTACT US" page. Samples are in 75 X 75 X 3mm format.

^ top

Q: Are all the colours the same price?

A: Yes

^ top

Q: Where can I purchase your recommended sander?

A: The Festool sanders and dust extractors can be purchased from a network of distributors throughout the country. Further details from www.festool.co.uk/Dealers/Pages/Search.aspx

^ top

Q: Where can I purchase Minerelle Finishing Spray and other cleaning product?

A: Minerelle Finishing Spray and other care and maintenace goods can be purchased from your retailer or directly from the manufacturer via this website using the "Contact us" page.

^ top

Q: How can I get training on the product?

A: We can organise installation/fitter training at either our distributor’s facilities or at the retailers premises. If there is no "scheduled" training clinic listed in the training section, please enquire through "CONTACT US" page and we will be in touch.

^ top

Q: Can the product be DIY fitted?

A: Due to the nature of creating inconspicuous, seamless joints and the product requiring sanding and polishing to create the correct "finish", they should be fitted by an experienced and trained Minerelle installer.

^ top

Q: Can I produce an ellipse on my tops?

A: Yes. To a minimum of 200mm. Refer to fabrication manual.

^ top

Q: Can I use heat bars?

A: This application is not recommended as it would mean cutting into the core. We would advise the use of trivets and wor worktop savers.

^ top

Q: Can I use a Belfast sink?

A: We do not recommend this application. The product warranty will be void if Minerelle is used in conjunction with a Belfast sink.

^ top

Q: Can I use 6mm sheet behind a hob.

A: Only a 12mm splashback is recommended for this application.

^ top

Q: What adhesive do I use for apply the hob panel?

A: We recommend a flexible PUR adhesive. Please read manufacturer's instructions before use. Distributors and retailers can purchase adhesive directly - please use the "Contact us" page for details

^ top

Q: Can I joint a splash back panel?

A: It is not recommended to joint a 6mm panel to another if it is to be bonded onto a wall. Due to expansion and contraction we recommended a flexible sealant between the joints.

^ top

Q: Can I have an under mounted sink with drainer groves?

A: For undermounting a sink you should use the Minerelle "Inline" workstations.

^ top

Q: Is it possible to get a high gloss surface?

A: All Minerelle worktops and cast sheets can be brought up to a high gloss level with additional polishing, however, we do not recommend it. High gloss surface are not practical as they require higher and more frequent maintenance. Please see our recommended finishing process in the "Fabrication and Installation" menu.

^ top

Q: How is the jointing adhesive applied?

A: To use the 50ml cartridge system you will require an applicator gun which can be obtained from your distributor. You can not apply the adhesive without this applicator.

^ top

Q: Can I use other solvents instead of Imanol?

A: We only recommend Imanol (prime isopropanol)which is supplied with every installation starter kit.

^ top

Q: What is the shelf life for the adhesive?

A: To stay on "the safe side" we would recommend 12 months from fill date, however dependant on storage, this can be up to 18 months providing that the adhesive has been correctly stored in a dry and cool location below 15 degrees C. Once a cartridge has been opened and or used will have a much shorter shelf life and is no longer under warranty for its shelf life.

^ top

Q: What is in the repair kit?

A: The repair kit contains all of the ingredients used in the manufacture of the solid surface. Resin, Granules and hardner. This needs to be mixed thoroughly prior to use. Mixing sticks, gloves, paper cups and Imanol are also provided. Full instructions on use are included, however the kit needs to be used by an experienced fitter.

^ top

Q: What is the shelf life of the repair kit?

A: 3 months from date of purchase providing it is kept cool and dry. Once the "fillers" have been mixed and providing that the hardner has not been added, the mixture will have a useable shelf life of 2 - 3 weeks.

^ top

Q: How do I look after my Minerelle worktops on day to day basis?

A: A consumer "Care & Maintenance" kit is available which allows you to maintain the surface to its original finish, provide surface protection and a level of lustre. This kit includes cleaning cloths, Minerelle Finishing Spray and a Scotch-Brite sponge for the removal of light scratches and marks. Please enquire through "CONTACT US" page if you wish to purchase directly. For full details please refer to "Care & Maintenance" page of this web site.

^ top

Q: Can I place hot objects on the surface?

A: To meet the requirements of a work surface, the surfaces are "tested" to 180 degrees celcius, however this does not mean that the worktop will not suffer some degree of damage. Placing hot items on any work surface without protection is not recommended and will invalidate the warranty. Please use a worktop saver which can be obtained from your retailer or a trivet.

^ top

Q: Will an overhanging pan or wok cause any problems?

A: As with any surface the choice of hob can play a part in ensuring that you don't experience any problems. It is esential that pans do not overhang the hob and heat is not directed downward to the surface. If asthetic choice and or design cannot avoid the heat generated from being directed at the worktop, you will need to consider a method of protecting the surrounding surface. When considering the purchase of a gas buring hob we recommend choosing a centrally positioned main burner.

^ top

Q: Can I cut on the surface?

A: As with the majority of surfaces, this will scratch and mark your worktops. If you wish to prevent this, always use a cutting board.

^ top

Q: Is Minerelle available across the whole of the UK?

A: Minerelle's distribution coverage is serviced by specialist worktop distributors, however not all distributors stock the full range. Please choose "WHERE CAN I BUY" and we will pass your details to your nearest distributor, who will advise you of your nearest stockist.

^ top

Q: How is an "Inline" workstation jointed and fitted?

A: Although the Inline workstation has a 12mm thick surface to allow undermounting sinks and the drainer grooves, it is designed to be fitted and jointed exactly the same way as the standard Minerelle worktops are jointed.

^ top

Q: Is it possible to sand Minerelle without dust extraction?

A: Apart from the complete mess and dust flying around, sanding pads will clog up and lose their abrading effectiveness if no extraction is used. This prevents you from achieving the desired finish.

^ top

Q: What is Minerelle Bathroom Panels?

A: To complement and enhance the bathroom worktop range we have added 6mm solid surface sheets to be used for bathroom design solutions. The panels are offered in two sheet sizes, 2440mm x 1220mm and 2440mm x 900mm. This stylish addition is an alternative solution to the conventional tiles but without the maintenance associated with grouted seams. Minerelle bathroom panels are used for shower panels and bathroom wall cladding.

^ top

Q: What standard colours are available in Bathroom Panels?

A: Angel, Bronte, Chocolate, Konkrit, Latte, Malta, Nightsky, Reform & Sahri. It may be possible to purchase any colour from the Minerelle Range - Please ask your supplier for lead times and details.

^ top

Q: Do you have a list of approved fitters?

A: This is something we are working on and will update the website with details of trained fitters who wish to participate in advertising their services. Please check with your supplier to obtain details of their recomendations in your area

^ top

Q: Can you join 2 tops back to back to create a 1300mm wide top?

A: This can be achieved by following the standard jointing procedure. As with all items to be joined, you must check for a good colour match before proceeding. We do offer a standard "island unit" which may be a worthwhile consideration if looking for a wider top.

^ top

Q: Are all colours available in the "Inline sections?

A: Unlike other products, Minerelle is 3 dimensional in colour, therefore to ensure colour match between the different thickness of solid surface, only the following colours are available; Angel, Bronte, Chocolate, Konkrit, Latte, Malta, Montana, Nightsky, Reform, Sahri, Scent & Tumble.

^ top

Q: Where is Minerelle manufactured?

A: Minerelle is manufactured in the North East of England. We actively encourage the use UK sourced products and the vast majority of our materials are manufactured in the UK.
